I'm hoping someone can help me, I'm running out of options here.
I have a 2005 Jeep Rubicon that just had a 4inch lift kit install about 4 wks ago. New tires/ 33" and new rims. . The jeep has a "chimney" problem around 50-55mpr. The steering wheel moves side to side but then it goes away after 60mpr. My mechanic had me changed the factory stabilizer with a dual stabilizer and added the polyurethane bushings. Then we changed the track bar with a adjustable one. Tires were balance and front end alignment was completed (again) this past wknd. Still the problem is there. He now things the problem could be with the drive shaft because of the 4 inch lift kit and wants to install a slip yoke eliminator. I read just about everything I can on line about this on going issue with Wranglers and Cherokee in general. However, I am not a mechanic.
Maybe its time to find a new mechanic? ;-)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I think you mean "shimmy". If you're not ready for an SYE/CV kit yet (financially, personally, mechanically, whatever) I'd get new u-joints pressed into your rear shaft. I'd place a bet that they are original, and some new ones would do you some good. Also a set of rear upper control arms (PM dongalonga about buying his) will allow you to adjust the angle of the rear axle to temporarily cater to the problem.

SYE is going to need to happen eventually, probably sooner than later. We have a good thread on here about buying them. My vote goes back to Adams Driveshaft in Vegas.

New mechanic /alignment guy and you do need a slip yoke kit.
Things you would not think of like too much air in tires can contribute to that also.
What are you running for air pressure?
If your mechanic is guessing then be done with him as far as this problem is concerned or you will just be throwing money at the jeep for nothing.
As Ryan had stated, get slip yoke kit from adams driveshaft.

The tires are running around 31psi, and I did "play" with the tires pressure for a while but it seems like I was just "masking" the problem., and also running with low pressure affected the driving in general as my jeep was running too "heavy" This morning I tested driving it on 4wd at 50 MPH to see if there was a difference. There was none. My mechanic is a cool guy and I wish I could find the issue but several hundred dollars later, the problem still there. Do you know if anyone near the Boston area that can fix this thing?
Thank you!

I am in Haverhill.
I could look at it and tell you what's going on with it.
Been ther done that , worked in offroad jeep shop , I have 2 tjs with short arm lifts set up by me and have no issues. .
Let me know if you would like me to take a look at it.
I work at home out of my garage now and basically work on tjs and yjs.

Sounds good. I am planning in taking a day off this week anyway, hopefully, we can arrange something. If there a day that works better for you?

Thanks!
