Just wanted to start a thread here for guns. I know this can be a touchy subject for some people, so let's leave politics out of it. We do have a few LEO members, so this doesn't need to be any type of argument if you had issues applying for an LTC or anything of the sort... play nice please!

--

With all that being said - who carries? Who owns? What do you shoot?

I'll be taking the required safety course in the next few weeks, although I owned and shot handguns frequently when I lived in Florida. (owning was as simple as buying a gun and signing the appropriate paperwork... no certifications or licenses).

I had a Cold War era Hungarian military issue FEG PA-63 Makarov 9mm. I was at the gun range the other day (back in Florida) and had the pleasure of shooting the new Springfield XD9 - it kicked ass. Dead on at 35 feet, something not all hand guns can claim.

Anyway, discuss if you want Smile

I have my LTC - A no restrictions. I am former Army but never owned any guns until last year. I now own several lol! My Jeep is now cutting into my gun-buying budget dangit!

If/when you do get your LTC, and are looking to buy a handgun. I just bought a beautiful Ruger SR1911 Commander two months ago. I went to the range with it once. When I was there I signed up for a raffle to win a S&W SW1911 Pro Series and won it for $20!

I would be willing to let the Ruger go for probably $600 or so. New it is over $700. But anyhow, I didn't mean to seem like I was hijacking your thread. We will have to go to the range some time!

Always wanted to when I was back east, but it was just so darn expensive!

Forget the inflated cost of the guns themselves, licensing and classes added up to around $200. Worth it if you're going to stick around, but we knew we were moving within a year or so, so I just couldn't justify it.

I've only got the Marlin 39a now, but I'm hoping to get a deer rifle and possibly a handgun/CCL in the next year or so....

Not to mention ammo costs and availability right now. I usually have to go to NH to buy my ammo. They seem to have a better supply. So Ryan, you have a place you are going to take the test already? The place I went is Original Bob's in Salisbury. That probably isn't very local to you though. I hope you don't think I tried to hijack your thread earlier. Wasn't my intention.

Do you plan to carry concealed? Hunt? For home defense or the range? Just curious. Am pretty new to gun ownership myself.

I am new to the gun ownership within the last two years. I thought it was a good idea to get my ltc given the fact my girl would be carrying one daily. Her family has many guns ( hunting, target shooting, home deffence, personal carry) personally I have a fullsized Smith and Wesson M&P 40 and I loved it I can shoot it all day and not think twice. Extremely durable and reliable. My girl has the same gun only the 45 police issue with novak tritium sites( super bright wish I had them) I have carried it before but its big and bulky for everyday carrying. Currently I am looking at the m&p shield and the ruger LC9. Ive shot both and really like both only problem in the shield is really hard to get in mass( its extremely saught after) but I love the m&p platform. I'm even looking at the m&p ar15 what can I say its like a jeep when you find what you like you stick with it just like Smith & wesson.

Bill- don't be silly, this forum is for discussion. Glad you posted.

I'll get it for home defense and target. I don't hunt, but as the world is becoming a more restricted place I think it's getting past the best time to get into this kind of thing. I'll keep the FEG I own, and likely add one of these XD9s. Down here in Florida they limit you to one box of ammo per person per day, due to the incredibly short supply.

Class will be done at my friend's company office, New England Security, when they train new officers.

Dura, I also own a S&W M&P 9c, which I used as my first carry weapon. A great 9mm compact, after a trigger job, it is a fantastic gun. Reliable as anything can be. I just cannot NOT use my new S&W 3" 1911 though. This thing is a beast!

I just became a certified NRa instructor this week. I have been involved with firearms for over a decade now. I am also a 2a Advocate with several groups locally and nationally. If anyone has questions, feel free to ask.

So did you get your appointment to see the licensing officer for your local PD? How long have you been waiting if so? Still trying to figure out what your first buy will be?

If it gets past 4 weeks let me know. I work with the Firearms Bureau (We share an office), so I can check the status if you wanted for you. It took me 4 weeks exactly.

I know absolutely nothing about guns, but I am trying to find time to take a class with live fire. I'll make it happen in the next few weeks.

My friends suggested this one --> http://www.massltctrain.com/

Check out LSC's class. They put on a good class with live fire. This is my club and where I will be teaching:

They have a class every month.
