Hey,

Just looking for a good actuator as my 4x4 is not engaging or even better, I'm looking for a posi-lock system that someone has purchased and isn't using. I just picked up a new adjustable linkage, gonna pick up a new TC switch in a few to try that, and would be willing to pick up an actuator or Posi-lock kit today with cash in hand.

Also looking for some corner guards for my rear end of my 93 wrangler.

If you have either hanging around and could use some cash, Please PM me and I'll instantly forward off my number and we can discuss further. Located in Salem MA but willing to drive and meet up!

Thanks,
Bobby

It's usually the switch on the transfer case that is junk, auto zone and advance have them.
Second most common issue is the vacuum hoses from t case to actuator ,, cracked, broken, disconnected etc.
Check the vac source hose that comes off the intake manifold also.
Put it in 4wd while running and unplug vac hose at axle and check for vacuum.
I might have an actuator but It's not usually the issue unless the fork inside the actuator is broken or diaphragm is ng.
Good luck,
Mark,

Thanks Mark, I have checked all the vacuum hoses and there is vacuum at the actuator (CAD). I will have to check the vacuum hose at the intake manifold as I skipped over that one last week. I also checked the hoses at the transfer case so I'll try to pick the transfer case switch up this week and swap it out to see if it could be this. I've read they fail pretty often so maybe I'll luck out this time, but I'd still like to see if anyone has a posi-lock they never installed as it's a solid upgrade for the trails and as a last resort I'll be swapping the actuator/fork if needed.

Thanks,
Bobby

I literally threw mine out last year because I didn't know any YJs who wanted it and we were moving. Sorry about that.

You can also just shim it to one side with washers as a semi-permanent fix if you're ok with it always "on".

I had a whole huge document on troubleshooting it, but I can't find it, sorry. I do remember that you disconnect both lines, feel which one has vacuum with the engine running in 2WD, then put it in 4WD and see if it reverses which line has vacuum. That'll tell you if everything's running correctly up to that point. (Mine ended up just being a line that had unplugged, so I didn't do much after that)

Wanted YJ 4wd Actuator or Posi-Lock/YJ body armor Empty TC switch is coming today

Post  RidingOnLeafs 2/27/2014, 9:51 am

Well had some trouble finding the transfer case switch, but it should be in today and I'll try replacing it to see if it was part of the problem. I don't wanna go permalocked yet, but I have a feeling if I pull off the actuator then I'm going to end up ordering a posi-lock. I don't really have the tools at this time to make a DIY one, so hopefully it's the switch.

Thanks for the help so far by the way.
Bobby

We try to help each other keep our jeeps going, plus you learn what makes it tick and save some money at the same time.

I don't know what town you are in but i found this one at the Plaistow NH AZ store, don't know if it is the correct one or not.
Does the 4wd light come on when you place t case shifter in any of the 4wd positions?
There should also be a vac operated electric switch in the vac line after it leaves the intake manifold.
Did you try 4wd or are you going by the fact that the light doesn't come on ,,if in fact that is what's happening ?
Most of the time the T CASE switch gets corroded inside where the vac plug attaches and goes bad from lack of use .

Wanted YJ 4wd Actuator or Posi-Lock/YJ body armor Empty Switch is stuck right now

Post  RidingOnLeafs 2/27/2014, 11:45 am

The 4x4 no longer comes on in either position. I have tried 4x4 many times and it's not engaging or illuminating the lights. I just got a new adjustable linkage from a friend and the transfer case switch will hopefully be swapped today as it's currently soaking in pb blaster.

I know it's not engaging as it's been so snowy this year and the rear Mickey Thompsons have been spinning as they're the worst snow tires possible. I also did the test where you put it in 4wd on gravel and test the turn radius, and as I've used the 4wd a lot for wheeling, I know it's not engaging by the feel. I could put it up in the air to confirm that, but I know when it's rolling in 4wd as it pulls different (to the right) when the front axle is actually working.

Hopefully I can get this switch swapped out today but it's a little cold out there to be smashing my hands.

Ok so switch has been replaced and still no 4x4. I guess my next best bet is to keep checking vacuum lines and see if an actuator pops up. Thanks again for the help guys.

If you switch from 2WD to 4WD, does the vacuum change at the disconnected tubes on the CAD end?

Wanted YJ 4wd Actuator or Posi-Lock/YJ body armor Empty Bought a posi-lock

Post  RidingOnLeafs 3/6/2014, 4:50 pm

Hello All,

I purchased a posi-lock as I'm not going to deal with the old vacuum system. I'm going to hopefully install that soon (weekend if I have time).

I am still looking for YJ body armor if anyone has some that they removed or have sitting around. I would like some decent rear corner guards.

Thanks,
Bobby
