I spoke with a few people regarding Crown parts at the recent BBQ get together. They sound like a great deal, as I'm not too concerned with paying for a brand name. Seeing the parts firsthand was great too. Now, my question is how do I get them? I checked out their e-store and I didn't see what I was looking for. I could call them, but I'm not exactly sure what it is I'm looking for. I mean, I know what it is, I just don't know what they call it. Any ideas?

In doing a quick search online, I found some threads on jeepforum that suggest that some parts Crown just can't keep on their shelves, so maybe this is why it doesn't show up on their website either?

Crown is a distributor, so you can't actually buy anything online from them unless you're a dealership, shop, etc., so that may be why you can't see everything. They can order almost anything you need though and have it to you most times by the next day. Your best bet is either heading down there (the store is in Canton) or calling Jeff. It's open Monday-Friday 10:30-5 and Saturday 10-2.

And since I didn't mention this, Jeff is the store manager there, not like a random person on the forum.

Hahaha awesome I figured that he had some sort of relevance to Crown. I'll try and set aside some time to head down there. Thanks for the info.

Just give Jeff a call and he will tell you if he has a bumper there or if it is at ware house like mine was.
He will pick it up for you.
My crown rear bumper was a fantastic deal and it is exactly the same as a warn bumper , only it was about 400 dollars less than a warn.

My bumper even came with the frame tie in brackets.
Jeff is a great guy and he will do what he can to help you out.
Just tell him you want a warn knock off rear bumper with the tire carrier.

The matching front bumper can be purchased at,, extreme metal products .com.
It is exactly like the warn front bumper and cost about 200 dollars, super deal.
I Just looked and maybe they stopped manufacturing the front bumper.

They also make a super trans skid plate , gas tank skid and steering box skid, I have all of them on my jeep.

Cool dude, Jeff. Those bumpers with the provision for mounting the tire carrier are currently on order, but out of stock. Thanks for the help, Mark.

He's got a Rampage bumper with provisions for lights but the price is a good deal higher and I don't have lights to fill those holes.

And I just found a different Rampage bumper, very similar to the Crown one I'm interested in for $300.

Hmmm....decisions decisions. Question

He said it could be anywhere from a week to a month. He's going to investigate and give me a call back. I'm not in a huge rush, really, as I'm not driving it right now. Though I would love to get it on, and I've tentatively allotted all of next weekend to wrenching for myself. So I might just pull the trigger on something else so I'll get it in time. I dunno.

I myself would not expect another bumper that comes with tire carrier included to be as good as the crown Warn style for the price.
I would hold out for the crown.
Did he give you a price?

Negative. Though he gave me prices for the rampage one and for a tubular style one (I think also by Crown) which I'm not really into. I prefer the solid, boxed style bumpers personally.

This is the other rampage one I found for ~300:

http://www.quadratec.com/products/12202_3200.htm

It looks very similar. A little bit cheaper on Amazon, even. What say you?

I have a brand new one of them in my shed that I had bought for my jeep.
THE LATCH SUCKS.
So maybe I will put it on my YJ if I decide to keep it.
It is not as good as the crown .

Eff.

While the bumper with tire carrier is $300, which IS awesome, they're months out, which is NOT awesome. Just got off the phone with Jeff again.

Yeah. I think I'm gonna get one of these instead:

http://www.quadratec.com/products/12057_1112_07.htm

And leave the tire on the tailgate. If the hinges wear out, I'll deal with it later.

Man, prices on that went up. I remember getting mine for $50 when I first got the Jeep. Honestly at that point you might as well get the Smittybilt tire carrier version for not much more. Get in touch with Jason at Jeepin' Outfitters and ask him for the JeepForum discount.

Cheap money, I have one in the front of my girl friends jeep.

I wouldn't tow with it but It has d rings for recovery.
I think it is free shipping.
I had the set but sold the rear not long ago.

Guys, I'd like to talk a little more rear bumper tech, if you don't mind.

I found this guy for $100 (bumper only, no tire carrier):

Crown bumpers 4WD_76750

Or for $130 more, I can get D-ring tabs:

Crown bumpers 4WD_76750D

Or another $40 on that, gets me this:

Crown bumpers 11546.01

I like the D-rings because it gives easy winch points and they're also closer to the frame than if I were to use a receiver-mounted D-ring assembly (Mark, you know what I'm talking about). Having the D-ring tabs close to the frame (depending on the bumper construction and installation, of course) makes them stronger winch points than the receiver area because of the way the load travels through the bumper. The Rugged Ridge one looks like it has a stronger receiver because it doesn't appear to be welded half out of the bumper, but I could be mistaken.

I've heard bad news about installation of Rugged Ridge and Smittybilt products (holes don't line up, etc.) but I've backed this thing into a couple trees by accident, so I don't expect even an OEM bumper would just bolt right up. So that's kind of not really a concern to me. I'm planning to have to get custom to some degree.

The Rugged Ridge bumper has a box on the back side of the receiver.
It is almost the same as the crown/warn.
Better off with shackle mounts at or near where frame attachment bolts go like the RR bumper..

Does the mounting design seem strong?

It's has been on for over a year, it is ok.
I think that you could tow a small trailer with it but I would use the shackle tabs for recovery.
It's parked in my drive way if you want a look see at it to get an idea of how it stacks up.
I recommend installing a frame tie in bracket kit also.

http://www.quadratec.com/products/12066_900.htm

I also have the other bumper/tire carrier that you have in the other picture, you can look at that too if you want to evaluate that one.

I appreciate the offer, but I'm tempted to just get the thing on order. It's been too long as it is. Plus, I dunno when I'll get a chance to install the damn thing. Rolling Eyes

Welp...I ordered it.
