I built this steering box skid this past fall. It was my first welding project ever, and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I used about 1 spool of Flux Core wire, and my new Hobart Handler 140 did quite well. The steel it is made of is 3/16" steel which is plenty beefy. I used a jig saw and angle grinder to make the cuts and notches I needed. I can already see where a proper plasma cutter is worth it's weight in gold. Anyway, simple installation, and so far it has looked great (Haven't found any rocks tall enough to reach it where it sits under my bumper!!)

Total cost was about $45 including flux wire, so about $5 cheaper than the stores online, and I can say I made it myself!

I'd be happy to make these for anyone who wants to buy the supplies and maybe throw me some cash on the end.
