TJ 2.5L Rear Main Seal --- HELP!
So I am going to start tackling this in the morning before I go to work (I work 2nd shift). I have the Haynes manual, read online, and searched this forum for all the help I can get. From what I have gathered you don't have to drain the transmission. That's about it for useful tips, other than it would be so much easier if it was a 4.0.
Basically throwing this out there so I can see if anyone has any speedy advice for me. I am going to do my best to get her all ready for Saturday. It's a 1998 2.5L automatic. Wish me luck!!!!

Make sure that you do not bend the seal or install it Backwards.
Be extremely careful not to scratch up / gouge the crank shaft where the seal contacts the crank.
Make sure that the bearing is positioned in main bearing cap correctly (if it gets separated from bearing cap) before installing the bearing cap.

I still have to do this on my YJ, so I would *love* to see any pictures or hear any advice!
Good luck, let us know how it goes!

Still haven't done this. I am procrastinating like a boss! If I have to tear into the jeep as much as I have read then I am thinking I may just do an engine swap. Really would like to do. 4BT. Also need to do a frame repair. For all the money I have spent fixing this thing I could have a sick TJ instead of a stock one.

Alot less work to just replace the rear main seal and be on your way than it would be to convert it to a diesel.
No JEEP is really stock unless it's still in the show room.

I know it would be a lot of work. But I really want to make a diesel. Some day!
