I should have been more specific I meant the gear stick since it's a manual not the 4wd selector lol.

ahhh gotcha...that didn't even occur to me since I drive a slush box haha
Could you tell if there was a small body lift? Also something is odd about that little storage area directly past the transmission stick - that is definitely not factory
And I thought rubicons came with hard tops? That doesn't have the punch outs for rear defroster or rear wiper so he never had a hard top with that Jeep...I might be mistaken on all rubicons coming with hardtops though

It has an aftermarket center console...With a broke lock mind you lol so none of that is stock. It has a suspension lift (I think) u didn't see any spacers but it did have a 1" motor mount lift under the hood

Looks nice! I'd be trying to pay less than 10 personally, but I guess you do get a lot of good stuff stock on the rubi.

I doubt 10k would happen haha. It's weird normally I would stay away from a wheeled jeep but whoever had it before seemed to know what they were doing because from what I could see they did the lift right and used nice parts lol. Makes it more tempting then not strangely

Re: Might be time for a new Jeep
I hear ya on that, but hard to say if its actually advisable. I thought the same thing when I was looking for XJ's, wheeled but not abused would have the details worked out and been tested. Guy I bought it from had seemed to do things the right way, but the more I get into it the more bullshit hacky stuff I find. And the guy I bought it from runs a shop specializing in offroad/jeeps/old landrovers etc. Now granted, as his personal vehicle I guess its excusable maybe but eh. You never really know what you're going to find hidden away (like say.. a cracked frame where the hitch mounts).
It sounds like you've gone over it really well but it never hurts to go over it even more.

good god long url, from the way the call went seems like it'd land around 13,5-14 from what it sounds like they're willing to do, mind you without seeing the vehicle i dropped from from "a few hundred of play" to 14k in 2 minutes haha.

Re: Might be time for a new Jeep
You know, buying Clayton's rig wouldn't be a bad buy at all. It's geared correctly (4.10's correct me if I am wrong) for the tires which would make it better for DD duty, it's got a super short slip yoke, and it already has tube fenders. Yes it does have a D35 out back, but for what you would pay for a lift, tires, fenders ect, you could put that money towards some sweet axles for that rig. Just a thought.
I'm tryin Clayton! Haha

Re: Might be time for a new Jeep
Holy crap, you haven't sold that beast yet?
Yeah, that'd be a great place to start from. Already built, but with room to grow and he used it as a DD, so it's good and roadworthy.

You're correct, Andrew. In terms of "weak-points," the D35 would be one of them. But since I used it for 95% DD use, I never had any issues with it.
Mr. DesertZJ, I sent you a PM with my phone number. Feel free to call me and we'll work something out. I'd rather sell it to someone I know rather than some random, slimy teenager.

So as it should be. ....
Drum roll......
I am buying claytons jeep.
Which we also had an idea. We should all thrown in 20 bucks and get a set of "inspection tires" to use as a club haha

Re: Might be time for a new Jeep
Nice! Congrats to both of you lol
Good idea . I imagine you should be ok with just about any tires if you go to a reasonable inspector. I actually did the math out on the MA lift law recently and determined that for a Cherokee a 33" tire is legal, though it'd be less for a wrangler due to the shorter wheelbase. Tire lift can be up to the same as suspension lift which is wheelbase*track width /2200.

Yay!!!!
Glad to see it end up in good hands. I was very sad when I learned he was planning on selling it (despite him still having a Jeep to work on still).
In terms of tires, with YJs it's 32", I'm pretty sure.

Re: Might be time for a new Jeep
Clayton's old Jeep was a mean looking rig, glad it'll still be put to good use.
On a separate note regarding the inspection tires: you guys must go to some tough stations for inspections. My parents' F-150 passed yesterday with a spongy brake pedal and a cracked strut coil that's literally hanging down below the base plate (both issues to be addressed soon but end of the month is upon us). My YJ passed with holes in both floors and a nickel-sized hole in the rocker that peeks clear into the cab (I'll admit I was sweating it out a bit). Lift and tire requirements are always the least of my concerns come inspection time though.

Re: Might be time for a new Jeep
If you get desperate to get an inspection, I'll bring you to my buddy's shop that does inspections in Berlin... He will pass it obviously as long as there is no engine light, and there is nothing seriously wrong with it... My tires stick out, and I have good sized holes in my front fenders and I pass every year. No need to find another set of tires.
