Shop To Remove/Install Axle Bearings
Does anyone know of a local shop (Lowell, MA Area) that can remove and install new rear axle bearings for a decent price? I am doing the disc brake conversion this weekend. Thanks.

Re: Shop To Remove/Install Axle Bearings
I was given a quote of $80 at one shop, but that seems high.

I dunno, that doesn't sound that awful.
Figure to open the diff, take the c-clip out, remove the outer parts of the axle and the axleshafts, pull the bearings, install new bearings, reinstall the axleshafts and outers, reinstall the diff cover and fill? Probably around an hour's worth of work. $80 an hour is pretty reasonable.

Let me clarify. This is with me bringing in the axles.

More than an hours work.
There should not be a c clip with a d 44. You should not have to remove cover
You ned 2 bearings, 2 races , and 2 seals.
The bearings and seals need to be pressed off of axles
Make sure the seals are not installed backwards. EASY TO DO.
The spring on seal needs to face inward twards center of diff.
If they are not you will have to do it all over again (bearing will have to be pressed off again ).

Oh crap, totally missed the 44 thing. Thanks Mark. I was assuming a D35.
Re: Shop To Remove/Install Axle Bearings
Any shop recommendations? I have all of the parts. I will be removing the shafts and carrying them in. $80 for pressing bearings off/on seems steep to me.

It's ok. I guess I will have to bite the bullet on this one.
