2000 XJ -- Looking for a good North Shore shop
Hi Jeep People,
I just bought a 2000 xj and while I got it cheap i think it may need a new engine soon. It has 150K on it and makes quite a bit of engine noise. The PO ran it with too much oil in it and this may have caused some engine wear. The oil pressure drops to 0 at idle. It doesn't run rough or knock but the mechanic I had look at it said it had way too much oil in it and this frothed up and became less viscous which could have cause the excess engine noise. I was like "well, it's a jeep, they make noise" but he's the expert not me (yet).
I'm not a mechanic these days so I am looking for a good reputable shop or shops I can start talking to about an engine replacement or rebuild. I plan on driving it until it goes which is hopefully a long time.
Any recommendations on a good shop within 10 miles or so of Lynn?

Change the oil and filter and throw in a can of engine restore and run it like that for a while and see if it quiets down.
What do you have to loose.

Check the casting number on the head, if its 0331 (most 2000 and 2001 XJs) there's a chance the head has cracked and coolant/oil are mixing. It sucks but do some research and know to keep an eye out in the future if it hasn't happened yet.
