Yea I agree. I got turned onto them from Rafikie and from NEOW. Nice stuff!
Re: Andrew's Yellow Jeep Build.
I just sent an email to a guy about this 8.8 axle i just found on craigslist tonight! Hoping to have a reply tomorrow night after work after a long day of working both jobs. Here is the link: http://worcester.craigslist.org/pts/3084221425.html

Re: Andrew's Yellow Jeep Build.
Is this including brackets? He almost makes it sound that way, but I don't think it does. If you could get it for $250-300 and offered to pick it up, I'd say it's worth it. You'll easily have another $400-500 to put into it after you get it so this is the point where you want to make off with a great deal.
Re: Andrew's Yellow Jeep Build.
i just sent another email asking if it is already set up to throw under my jeep. I see a wrenching day in the future before the summer is done.

Re: Andrew's Yellow Jeep Build.
Also, this axle doesn't have limited slip. Here is his last reply: "you would have to weld the brackets on... but yes it is in good shape, no need to do anything to it internally as far as I could tell, I spun it to make sure the bearings were fine etc. Artec makes a drop-on bracket kit to put it in TJs iirc.
I haven't looked inside it as it still has the factory cover on it and I didn't want to risk getting dirt or water inside it. Everything spun fine and I'd be absolutely shocked if someone managed to blow one of these up in a stock explorer, really - it was junked because of a frontend collision, not miles or age. Came from a 2000 model.
No limited slip - but that makes finding a lunchbox locker for it cheaper/easier."

Re: Andrew's Yellow Jeep Build.
not really sure what i should do. How easy would it be to put in limited slip? Or maybe a locker, but i don't really think i i need a locker. Also, i have been thinking about just going right up to 35"s. Thoughts?

I've got a limited slip in mine. Technically, I bought from ECGS an open diff, but for some reason they gave me a LS free of charge. I wouldn't worry about finding an 8.8 with it, and instead you could put a locker/lunchbox in later down the road. At this point if you're sure it's what you want to do, find an axle weld up the brackets and get it installed. $250 would be a good starting offer (but you should be picking it up for that price).

200 or less 8.8s are every where.

Not everywhere with 4.10s though
Re: Andrew's Yellow Jeep Build.
Well, I need a new u-joint for my front right as well as a new bearing. What u-joint do I get. Is there a heavier duty u-joint that won't wear out as quick with a lift kit?

I got the hub assembly and u-joint at car quest. Not sure what brand, all it says on the box is car quest.

Re: Andrew's Yellow Jeep Build.
I just bought 4 currie lower control arms. I also bought some serious 1-ton steering from Serious offroad products! I think i have made up my mind and want to move right up to 35"s. Now i just got to save some a little more to buy an 8.8 axle from ECGS. I'm thinking i want to have this stage done by october.

Re: Andrew's Yellow Jeep Build.
Looks good, although I'd offer somewhere around $300. I paid $400 for mine with a Detroit, new ball joints, a SOLID cover, and 4.10 gearing.
You going to be okay paying for a re-gear? Or would you rather find a 4.10 non-trussed (do you need a truss???) HP30 for around the same price and avoid the $4-500 extra dollars to re-gear it?
Just playing devil's advocate

Forget that axle. You should go pick these up. Heck, I'd even steal my Dad's truck to get them for you if you got them.

Re: Andrew's Yellow Jeep Build.
Those definitely sound like awesome axles, but I just don't have that much money to spend on both axles. I would need to regear them also. Damn I wish I could have them!
So as I think I have confirmed, I am going to skip the 33's and just go to 35's. I'm just trying to figure out the minimum amount of lift I am going to need to pull this off with stock fenders. I was thinking of getting some AEV 3.5" springs. Would I still be able to use the same shocks as I have now. In the future, I all be upgrading to billstein's.
My currie control arms and 1ton steering should be arriving in a few days!
